2020 Nissan Titan XD

History/Overview

The Titan XD is the nearest thing Nissan offers to a heavy-duty, full-size pickup truck. Based on the standard Titan half-ton, the XD can handle more towing and payload. Nissan introduced the Titan XD in 2017, alongside a second-generation version of the regular Titan.

The Titan XD is refreshed for 2020 with new styling; a revised, more-powerful engine; and a new nine-speed transmission promising better acceleration.

Available Trims

Nissan sells the Titan XD in SV, Pro-4X and Platinum Reserve trims. All are standard with a 5.6L V8 engine matched with four-wheel drive and a nine-speed transmission.

Standard Features

On the outside, the Titan XD SV comes with 17-inch tires on steel wheels, an oil pan skid plate, tow hooks, auto on/off headlights, LED taillights, chrome front and body colour rear bumpers, heated side mirrors, sliding rear window, and LED cargo bed lighting.

The cabin is fitted with air conditioning, keyless entry with push-button ignition, cruise control, power windows and door locks, ambient lighting, map lights, a three-place bench front seat, a split-folding rear seat, cloth upholstery, carpeted flooring and mats, silver interior trim, 7.0-inch drive assist and 8.0-inch infotainment displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker stereo.

Safety features include trailer sway control, intelligent cruise control, lane departure warning, driver alertness monitor, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic braking, rear automatic braking, automatic high beams, and a rear door alert.

Pro-4X trim adds 18-inch wheels and tires; skid plates for fuel tank, radiator and transfer case; LED headlights/signature lights; LED fog lights; charcoal bumpers; a power sliding rear window; dual-zone automatic climate control; passive keyless entry; rain-sensing wipers; auto-dimming rearview mirror; an integrated garage door opener; LED map lights; front bucket seats with eight-way power adjustments; heated front seats; a leather-trimmed steering wheel; 9.0-inch infotainment display with navigation; a 12-speaker stereo; and traffic sign recognition.

Finally, Platinum Reserve gains 20-inch wheels and tires, body-colour bumpers and wheel arch mouldings, extendable/auto-dimming side mirrors with reverse tilt-down, a dual-panel sunroof, chrome running boards, 360-degree parking camera views, remote engine start, a four-way power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and wood interior trim.

Key Options

The Titan XD can be optioned with two packages.

SV trim offers a premium pack whose key items are 20-inch wheels, a 9.0-inch touchscreen, heated front seats with eight-way driver power adjustments, dual-zone climate control, passive keyless, navigation, remote engine start, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power sliding rear window, and front and rear parking sonar.

Pro-4X can be had with a luxury bundle adding 360-degree camera views, a power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, power steering column, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, sunroof, and auto-dimming side mirrors.

Fuel Economy

Because Natural Resources Canada doesn’t track fuel economy for heavy-duty trucks, Nissan doesn’t publish consumption figures for the Titan XD. Expect it to be less thrifty than the regular Titan (which uses the same drivetrain), whose estimates are 15.1/11.1 L/100 km (city/highway).

Competition

The Nissan Titan XD has no direct competitors, as it fills a gap between light- and heavy-duty pickups. Therefore, you could cross-shop it against the Ford F-150 and F-250, Ram’s 1500 and 2500, and the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC’s Sierra in 1500 and 2500 configurations.

The Toyota Tundra is Nissan’s only import competitor, which comes only in light-duty form.
